Industry school engagement

The Department of Education and Training is building partnerships with industry and the community for a highly skilled and relevant workforce - now and into the future.

Through industry, education and training we are investing in the future of Queensland's economy.

Industry school engagement involves partnering with industry to enable young people to acquire the knowledge, skills and attributes to participate effectively in society and employment in the globalised economy.

Outcome

Our young people will make a successful transition from school to work or further study in those areas of direct relevance to the economy.

How will this be achieved?

Through:

Initiatives

Gateway school projects

Gateway schools will deliver specialised education and industry training for students in Years 8 to 12 in the following industries:

Industry, education and training alliances

These alliances encourage greater collaboration between education, training (schools) and industry through projects which provide secondary students with a greater awareness of key industries and the career opportunities available in those industries. These alliances include the:

School industry trade centres

This involves the development of contemporary industry-focused centres - partnering with industry and local employers to provide a learning environment that duplicates the expectations and discipline of the workplace with a focus on real learning for real jobs including through school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Centres include:

Skill centres

Funding support is available to provide for the establishment or expanding of contemporary industry-focused facilities that will enable the delivery of accredited vocational education and training - particularly for Indigenous peoples and industries wishing to provide opportunities for their current and future workforce.

For more information telephone the department on (07) 3235 4434 or visit the skill centres page.

Trade training centres

Trade training centres are being established to help increase the proportion of students achieving Year 12 or an equivalent qualification and to help address skill shortages in traditional trades and emerging industries.

Schools and clusters of schools will have the opportunity to apply for funding from the Australian Government to build new, or upgrade existing, trade or vocational education and training facilities.

Industry partnerships are an important aspect of the trade training centre proposals as they are the key to providing pathways to apprenticeship, traineeship and other employment opportunities.
